Increases the National minimum wage and statutory payments in 2023

2023 will see increases to a number of statutory payments as well as the largest ever increase in the National Minimum Wage that we've ever had in the UK. Below are the key dates and details that employers need to be aware of;


When do changes occur?


Typically increases in statutory rates occur in April each year.


National Minimum Wage


From 1st April 2023 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) in the UK will increase as below;

  • aged 23 and over £10.42 per hour

  • aged 21-22 £10.18 per hour

  • aged 18-20 £7.49 per hour

  • under 18 £5.28 per hour

  • Apprentice £5.28 per hour (if aged over 19 and they have completed the first year of their apprenticeship, Apprentices are are entitled to NMW)

Family-Friendly Payments


Statutory Maternity, Paternity Adoption, Shared Parental Pay and Bereavement pay all increase to £172.48 per week from 2nd April 2023.


Statutory Sick Pay


Statutory sick pay increases to £109.40 per week from 6th April 2023.
